John Charles Thompson is the President, Chief Executive
Officer of Horizon Resources Group, Inc. He serves as Chairman of Horizon Holdings Corporation, the parent company.
The company is involved in the areas of industrial chemical distribution, wholesale institutional foods, insurance and
benefit plans, professional employment organizations, business financial planning and consulting, national and international
telecommunications, and exclusive international travel service for corporate clients. Now affiliated with four international
airlines, an international hotel chain and car rental system, clients are provided with major benefits and opportunities seldom
provided by other companies.The company began business in 1991 with the purchase of a licensed national retail drug store.
Other undertakings were added in the following two years. Chemical distribution grew to 14 clients in North Georgia. Food
distribution grew to 10 clients in the same area. In 1994, Horizon began business consulting in the area of Professional
Employment Organizations providing services to daycare, restaurants and retail supermarkets in the Atlanta area. Sensing the
needs of clients, Horizon entered the insurance and benefits area and immediately provided services to established clients.
Over 700 lives were covered. In 1998, Horizon extended its business to Tennessee and Oklahoma. Later adding Kansas, North
Carolina, Florida and New Mexico began in 2000. Special client needs were met in North Carolina in 2001. At present, clients
are served by Horizon in several states. Horizon through association with National Financial Services Group, established in
1896, a wholly owned entity of National Life of Vermont provides premium services in the financial planning and business protection
areas. Prior to founding Horizon Resources Group, Inc., Mr. Thompson achieved the position of Director of Administration for
Alterman Foods, Inc. and later Delhaize the Lion, Brussels, Belgium , US, and served for 21 years with daily responsibility
for 110 retail grocery and drug stores in Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee. The Company also operated a wholesale retail division,
an institutional foods division, and a manufacturing division. Mr. Thompson supervised a support staff of 125 corporate employees
in the area of maintenance, non-grocery purchasing, security, and office support services for all of these divisions. In addition,
for seventeen years he served as a member of the Board of Directors and Vice President of AADCO Federal Credit Union. He
was head of the Loan Committee from 1983 until 1993 when the credit union merged to became part of Lockheed Federal Credit
Union.
Before Joining Alterman Foods in 1970, Mr. Thompson held various positions in law enforcement, which included Assistant
Chief Investigator with Advance Research Bureau of Industrial Security where he provided consultation services to seven major
national banks. He was a member of the initial security group for First National Bank of Atlanta (BankAmericard Division)
and later Southeast Bankcard Association (Master Card Owner) in Atlanta. In 1965, Mr. Thompson joined the U. S. Army Intelligence
Command and became a Special Agent. Assigned to Atlanta where he headed the DASE Department as ASAIC, which handled sensitive
matters involving protection against ease dropping in 7 Southern states with all branches of military along with other foreign
and domestic government services. Due to special needs in 1968, Mr. Thompson was chosen and reassigned to Secret Service
duties. He served in candidate Executive Protection for the Republican National Convention in Miami, FL until late 1968.
Mr. Thompson graduated from Woodrow Wilson College of Law in Atlanta in 1976 (Georgia State University School of Law)
where he received his Juris Doctorate in Jurisprudence. He received a BLA from New York State College of Agriculture-Cornell
University through scholarship from Alterman Foods, and attended undergraduate studies at Texas Western College. Mr. Thompson
has been Involvement in the Atlanta community has included being a member of the Board of Directors of the Atlanta Police
Athletic League for 22 years of which 10 were served as its President. He served 8 years on the Planning Commission of the
City of College Park, GA which included 3 years as Chairman of the Commission. Previous memberships also include the Mayor's
Appointment to the Board of Zoning Appeals and a 24 year membership on Cobb County Law Enforcement Committee. Awards and
recognition include Outstanding Citizen from 4 Georgia Secretaries of State, Lieutenant Colonel Aide de Camp, Governors Staff
and Fellow of International Academy of Criminology and Who's Who in America 1982. He served on the Leadership Las Cruces,
NM Committee in 2002. In 2007 he received The Active Life Membership in the Peace Officers Association of Georgia. He maintains
membership in various Bar Associations including The Federal Communications Bar Association, New Mexico Bar-PL, Albuquerque
Bar Association, Florida Bar Association-PI, Asian-American Bar Association and the National Asian Pacific Bar Association
and American Bar Association.
In 2008, he was elected to full membership in the Royal Society of St. George of the United Kingdom.
